Silver Strikers Gear Up for September to Remember: CAF Champions League Debut and Women's Team Return
August has come to an end, and Malawian football club Silver Strikers are looking forward to a September filled with excitement. After a successful month in the TNM Super League and FDH Cup, the Central Bankers are now preparing for the CAF Champions League's first preliminary round against Elgeco Plus FC of Madagascar.
August proved to be a productive month for Silver Strikers, with the team collecting 18 points from a possible 21. They faced Mighty Tigers three times, with the first two matches ending in goalless draws. The side's impressive performances saw them qualify for the round of 16 of the FDH Cup.
September, however, will be a month unlike any other for Silver Strikers. The ninth month of the year will see the Central Bankers participating in the CAF Champions League, making their debut in Africa's premier club competition. The first preliminary round will be played away against Elgeco Plus FC between September 19th and 21st.
Due to these international engagements, Silver Strikers will not participate in any local games during this period, as all top-flight football competitions in Malawi will be halted from September 1st to 9th. This FIFA-sanctioned international break will give the team a much-needed rest before they shift their focus to the return leg of their CAF Champions League tie, which will take place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe between September 26th and 28th.
Meanwhile, the Women's team is also making a return to action after a two-week break. The National Bank of Malawi Premiership was on a break following the participation of Kukoma Ntopwa Queens in the CAF Women's Champions League and COSAFA Women's Qualifiers in Johannesburg, South Africa. During this period, the Malawi National Women's team was also in camp as part of the FIFA Women's Football International break, where they played in two international friendlies against Lesotho in Blantyre.
The NBM Women's Premiership is expected to resume on September 6th, with Silver Strikers Ladies aiming to extend their unbeaten run and maintain their top spot in the league. The side is currently on first position with 12 points from four games, making them the only team yet to face defeat.
Elsewhere, the Reserve side is currently in the 11th game of the Chipiku Central Region Premier Division, having collected 19 points. In September, the Reserve side is expected to finish off the first round of the league and refocus on the last part of the competition. The Youth side, meanwhile, continues to make good strides in the 2025 FCB Katswili Under 20 Lilongwe Youth Football League, with the team currently leading the table with 29 points from 13 games played.
It's an exciting time for Silver Strikers, with their focus on the CAF Champions League and the resumption of the National Bank of Malawi Premiership for the Ladies team. With the team's impressive performances in August and the promise of a memorable September, Silver Strikers fans have a lot to look forward to.
