Silver Strikers Reserve Secure Hard-Fought 3-1 Victory Over TN Stars
Silver Strikers Reserve continued their impressive form in the 2025 Chipiku Central Division League with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over TN Stars at ADL ground in Lilongwe on Wednesday. With the win, Silver Strikers have moved to second position in the league table, just one point behind leaders Mbabzi United.
The match started on a high note with both teams showcasing their attacking prowess in the early stages. TN Stars, based in Kasungu, had two promising attacks on goal within the first 20 minutes, but failed to capitalize on their opportunities.
It was Silver Strikers Reserve who broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Innocent Smart. The midfielder provided a diagonal ball from the right wing that found Ebenezer Mpangeni unmarked in the box, and the forward made no mistake in converting the chance.
The goal gave Silver Strikers Reserve the stability they needed to hold on to their lead throughout the first half. Head Coach McDonald Yobe made a tactical substitution at halftime, bringing on Blessings Phiri for Kelvin Matandala.
The second half saw the momentum of the game slow down as both sides failed to create many chances. It wasn't until the 75th minute that Silver Strikers Reserve made their next attack on goal. Mpangeni's header was saved by the opposition goalkeeper, but Cosmas Lyton was on hand to provide a defense-splitting pass that found Smart, who made no mistake in doubling the home side's lead.
TN Stars managed to pull one back in added time through Mayeso Mwale's free kick from the centre circle. However, Silver Strikers Reserve had the last laugh when Bright Ngoma scored the third goal in the dying minutes of the game, with an assist from Mpangeni.
After the match, a jubilant Yobe praised his team for their resilience and determination in securing the win.
"We had a good first half, but the opponents came hard on us in the second half," said Yobe. "We contained the pressure and found two goals. I'm happy with the win and we look forward to our next game against Chatoloma Admarc on Sunday."
Silver Strikers Reserve will travel to Kasungu to face Chatoloma Admarc at Chatoloma Ground on Sunday.
