FCB Nyasa Big Bullets: Coach Reassures Out-of-Form Goalkeeper Clever Mkungula of Importance
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda has given an update on the status of goalkeeper Clever Mkungula, who has been absent from the squad for over a month. Mkungula, a valuable member of the team, last featured in a match against Silver Strikers on 29 June.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend's TNM Super League clash against Dedza Dynamos, Mponda revealed that Mkungula had been dealing with personal challenges but assured him of his importance to the team.
"Clever Mkungula is a crucial player for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. Despite his recent absence, I want to reassure him that he is an essential part of our squad," Mponda said.
Mkungula joined Big Bullets from the Reserves in 2018 and was promoted to the first team in 2022. He signed a new two-year contract in January and has made a total of 35 senior appearances for the team.
"Yes, we have strong competition in the goalkeeping department, but every player must fight for their place," Mponda added.
The Bullets goalkeeping unit is competitive, with Innocent Nyasulu, Richard Chimbamba, and Austin Chirambo also vying for a starting spot. Mkungula, who has been working hard to regain his form, is determined to contribute to the team's success.
"I'm grateful for the coach's support, and I'm focusing on getting back to my best," Mkungula said.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets fans will be hoping to see Mkungula back in goal when their team takes on Dedza Dynamos at Kamuzu Stadium this weekend.
