FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves Draw with Chilomoni FC: Coach Munthali Reflects on Challenges and Returns of Key Players

In a closely contested SRFA Thumbsup League match, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves drew 1-1 with Chilomoni FC. The young Maule, who remain unbeaten and top of the table with 27 points, three clear of second-placed Ekhaya Reserve, were held to a stalemate following a Chimwemwe Banda own goal and a set-piece response from the hosts in the second half.

Despite dominating the first half, head coach Heston Munthali acknowledged areas for improvement. "I believe it was a good game overall," Munthali said. "In the first half, we didn't play as well as we had planned. The pitch conditions and our execution were not at the level we expected. However, the second half showed some improvement, even though we still had a few areas where we could have done better," he added.

Munthali pointed to a lapse in organization as the reason for conceding from a set piece in the second half. "We managed to score in the first half, but unfortunately, we conceded from a free kick in the second half. I feel we could have defended that situation more effectively. Perhaps the boys weren't fully organized in that moment, and Chilomoni punished us for it. We created chances but didn't make the most of them, and at times, we were second to the ball. That's football—sometimes it just doesn't go your way. We accept the result and now focus on improving in training," he stated.

The return of key players Kondwani Tebulo and Misheck Billiat from COSAFA duty with Malawi Under 20 is seen as a significant boost for the team. "The return of our players from COSAFA is a big boost because they are key members of the team," Munthali said. "We gave them some rest today due to the number of games they've played, but we introduced them for a few minutes to start preparing them for the next matches. We missed them, but I must commend the boys who played today—they worked hard and helped us a lot. With everyone together, we are confident moving forward," he added.

With the first round of the Thumbsup League nearing its conclusion, Munthali emphasized the importance of consistency and focus. "We know the remaining matches will not be easy, but we are approaching each game with focus and determination," he said. "The goal is to work hard, plan well, and keep our fighting spirit high so we can finish the first round strongly. Every game is important, and we will continue to give our best," he concluded.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves look poised to finish the first round on a strong note, sitting at the top of the table with 27 points as they continue their pursuit of the Thumbsup League title.
