Silver Strikers Ladies kicked off their 2025 National Bank Women’s Premiership campaign with a dramatic comeback win against MDF Lioness, securing their first three points of the season at Champion Stadium in Mponela on Sunday.

The Kamuzu Barracks-based team found themselves trailing early on when Ivy Lifa opened the scoring for MDF Lioness. However, the Ladies from Area 47 showed their fighting spirit and refused to let their heads drop.

Ireen Khumalo leveled the scores before the break, curling in a freekick at the dot of the end of the first half. The two sides went into halftime level, but Silver Strikers Ladies emerged stronger in the second half.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Chisomo Banda slotted home what turned out to be the winner for the Central Bankers Ladies. The team held on to the lead until the final whistle, earning a well-deserved victory.

"I am so proud of the girls as they showed a fighting spirit. We had a slow start to the match, but they fought and turned the game around. It’s not easy winning your first match against MDF Lioness, so I salute the girls for a job well done," said Silver Strikers Ladies Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi after the match.

With this win, Silver Strikers Ladies are currently in third place in the National Bank Women’s Premiership table, tied on points with leaders Ascent Academy and Mighty Wanderers Queens, who also won their first matches.
