Deborah Henry Scores as Silver Strikers Ladies Extend Unbeaten Run

Silver Strikers Ladies continued their impressive form in the 2025 National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mighty Wanderers Queens at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre. Deborah Henry's 31st-minute goal was the difference as the Area 47 Ladies side extended their unbeaten run to all games played.

The win saw Silver Strikers Ladies maintain their position at the top of the table with a perfect record of 15 points. Henry's goal also extended her lead in the golden boot chase as she now has six goals, one more than Leticia Chinyamula of Ascent Academy who sits second.

The match came after a two-week break due to international engagements and the CAF Champions League. The break may have affected both teams' preparation, but Silver Strikers Ladies showed no signs of rust as they took the lead through a set piece from a freekick played by Ireen Khumalo.

Henry's goal came in the first half, and the Ladies' side led at halftime. In the second half, they looked to double their lead but were unable to do so. With time running out, Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi introduced Gladys Banda and Carol Mathyola to add firepower, replacing Grace Kakangula and Linda Manda.

Another change came after 75 minutes when Mphatso Gondwe was introduced for Wezzie Mvula. The match ended in favor of Silver Strikers Ladies with that lone goal from Henry. Speaking after the match, Chikhosi was pleased with the team's performance and looked forward to the next match against Kukoma Ntopwa Queens.

"A great performance from the girls this afternoon. We were playing away and winning against a side like Wanderers at their back yard is something we can never take lightly. We are happy with this win and we look forward to more wins ahead," said Chikhosi.

Silver Strikers Ladies will travel to Blantyre again to face Kukoma Ntopwa Queens in their next match. The challenge for the Ladies will be to maintain their impressive form and continue their quest for the league title.

The Women's Premiership continues to show progress, with more teams investing in women's football and the standard of play improving. Silver Strikers Ladies will be looking to continue their dominance in the league, and the future looks bright for women's football in Malawi.
