Silver Strikers Ladies Extend Unbeaten Run and Top Spot in Women’s Premiership

Silver Strikers Ladies continued their impressive form in the National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over cross-town rivals Civo Service Women on Sunday. The win extended their lead at the top of the table to a commanding 21 points from seven games played.

Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi named an unchanged starting line-up from the side that defeated Kukoma Ntopwa Queens last week, and his team did not disappoint. Deborah Henry put Silver Strikers ahead in the seventh minute with a well-taken goal, before Wezzie Mvula doubled their lead 15 minutes later.

Civo Service Women pulled one back through Bernadetta Nyenga just before halftime, but Silver Strikers remained in control throughout the match. Despite not playing to their usual passing game, Chikhosi was pleased with the win.

"We did not play as well as we can, but I am happy with the three points," he said after the match. "Derbies are always difficult, and it took our girls some time to settle into the game. We missed some chances in the first half, but overall I am pleased with the performance."

The victory extended Silver Strikers' unbeaten run to seven games, making them the only unbeaten team in the league. Up next for the Area 47 side is a trip to Blantyre to face FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Mpira Stadium on Wednesday.

Chikhosi’s side has shown no signs of slowing down, with Henry and Mvula scoring the goals in their latest victory. Their passing game has been a treat for spectators, entertaining the crowds at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Challenges of Derby Matches

Derby matches are always a test for any team, and Sunday’s encounter with Civo Service Women was no exception. With both sides knowing the importance of the result, tempers flared and the pressure was on.

Despite the challenges, Silver Strikers Ladies found a way to come out on top, thanks in part to their experience and resilience. Chikhosi was quick to praise his team for their determination.

"These games are always difficult, but my girls showed great character to come away with the win," he said. "We will take this momentum into our next match and continue to push for the title."

With seven wins from seven games, Silver Strikers Ladies are the team to beat in the National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership. Up next for them is a tough test against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. Only time will tell if they can continue their impressive run of form.
