FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women Make a Dominant Return to the NBM Women’s Premiership with a 4-0 Victory over Topik Academy

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women made a triumphant return to the NBM Women’s Premiership after a month-long hiatus with a dominant 4-0 victory over Topik Academy at Mpira Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The People’s Team displayed a composed and confident performance, collecting maximum points and moving up the league standings.

The first half began with Topik Academy threatening the Bullets’ goal, with Christina Chirwa coming close to opening the scoring in the second minute. However, the visitors failed to capitalize on their early chances as Bullets slowly grew into the game. Sharon Dzimau’s deliveries caused problems for Topik Academy’s defense, while Chikondi Mgodi led the line with energy and determination, constantly pressing the visitors’ backline.

An early tactical change saw Ioulia Yiannakis introduced for Florida Safilodi in the 18th minute, and the substitute immediately added creativity and attacking tempo to Bullets’ play. Yiannakis won corners and stretched the Topik backline, setting the stage for the breakthrough.

The first goal came in the 35th minute when Mgodi latched onto a pass from Dzimau and coolly slotted past the goalkeeper to give Bullets the lead. Just before halftime, Mgodi was brought down inside the box, earning a penalty that Caroline Mlezo confidently converted to double the advantage before the break.

After the restart, Bullets maintained their rhythm and intensity. Dzimau’s free kick sailed narrowly over the bar, while Topik Academy made changes to try to get back into the contest. However, Mgodi grabbed her second goal of the day in the 64th minute, pouncing on a rebound after the goalkeeper spilled Vanessa Issa’s initial effort.

Bullets’ pressure paid off again in the 73rd minute when Issa finished a well-worked team move that started with Mgodi and was set up by Leah Mussa, extending the lead to 4-0. Chombo’s charges continued to dominate possession, creating more chances through Yiannakis and Chimwemwe Sapangwa, who saw her free kick narrowly miss the target in the 78th minute.

Late substitutions saw Linda Nyangu replace Leah Mussa and Effa Msukwa come on for Bernadette Mkandawire as Bullets comfortably saw out the game.

The victory lifts Bullets Women to fifth position in the NBM Women’s Premiership after six games, displacing Kukoma Ntopwa Women, who lost 3–1 to Silver Strikers Ladies on Sunday. After a month without competitive action and missing several key players, Tuesday’s result restores momentum and confidence heading into a busy stretch of fixtures.

The People’s Team will be back in action on Sunday, when they face Mighty Wanderers Queens in the women’s Blantyre derby at Mpira Stadium. Three days later, they will welcome Silver Strikers Ladies, the current league leaders, in another highly anticipated fixture at the same venue.

Bullets’ dominance in the NBM Women’s Premiership continues to be a talking point in Malawian football, with the team’s impressive performances and individual talents grabbing the attention of soccer fans and pundits alike.

With their sights set on the league title, Bullets will be looking to build on their victory over Topik Academy and continue their winning ways in the coming weeks.
