FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Captain Frank Willard: Pride and Determination Ahead of Chitipa Debut in FDH Bank Cup
As FCB Nyasa Big Bullets prepare to make history with their first-ever competitive match in Chitipa against Chilumba Barracks in the FDH Bank Cup Round of 32 on Sunday, their captain Frank Willard expressed his pride and determination to lead the team in this momentous occasion.
"It's a very special thing leading this team in our first-ever match here in Chitipa," Willard shared with Bullets Media after Friday's morning training session. "We are facing a team that we've never met before. We are not underestimating them, and everyone respects that it's a crucial game for us," he added.
Despite the painful 3-3 TNM Super League draw against Karonga United last weekend, Willard believes the team can learn from the experience and start the cup campaign strongly. "It was a painful result giving away a 3-1 lead. It's not something we anticipated, but that's the result we got. We just have to accept it, move on, and learn from it," he said.
The skipper also emphasized the team's hunger to reclaim the FDH Bank Cup, which they failed to defend in 2024. "We failed to defend the FDH Bank Cup last year, and as players, we keep pushing and motivating each other to do better and retain it this season," Willard added.
The conditions in Chitipa are favorable for the team, according to Willard. "The pitch and the weather are all good. We can't give any excuses. What's important is for us to keep focused and keep encouraging each other to get a result and reach the next round," he said.
Willard also urged supporters from Chitipa and beyond, including those from neighboring Zambia and Tanzania, to paint the stadium red and white on Sunday. "It wasn't a good reaction from the fans after the Karonga draw. It was unfortunate that they went on to smash the bus. I believe that was one of the best games we've played this season despite the draw," he said.
"No player wants to drop points – there's a lot at stake, including pride, points, and bonuses. We ask our supporters to stand with us even when results don't go our way," Willard concluded.
With the team's historic debut in Chitipa and the determination to reclaim the FDH Bank Cup, Sunday's cup tie promises to be an exciting one for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and their supporters. Stay tuned for more updates from the team's campaign in the FDH Bank Cup.
