Silver Strikers Secure Hard-Fought 1-2 Win Over CRECK Sporting Club
In a thrilling encounter at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji, Silver Strikers claimed their third away victory of the season, defeating CRECK Sporting Club 1-2. The win moves the defending champions up to fourth place on the log table.
The first half of the match saw Silver Strikers take the lead through a volley from Uchizi Vunga, following a throw-in from McDonald Lameck. However, CRECK Sporting Club responded with two substitutions and managed to equalize just before half-time.
Despite a slow start to the second half, Silver Strikers rallied and regained the lead through a goal from Binwell Katinji, who had only recently come on as a substitute. Katinji equalized with his first touch, slotting home a pass from Stanie Davie.
In the final minutes of the match, Silver Strikers made another substitution, bringing on Levison Maganizo for Zebron Kalima. The team held on to their lead until the final whistle, securing a hard-fought victory.
"It was a tough game," said head coach Peter Mgangira in a post-match interview. "When you are defending champions everyone comes on you very hard. In the second half the hosts came and scored, but the players did not put their faces down, they picked themselves up and scored again. I'm happy we won the match."
The win moves Silver Strikers to 18 points on the log table, just one place behind third-placed Big Bullets. Top scorers Uchizi Vunga and Binwell Katinji continue to lead the team's attack, with four goals each.
Silver Strikers' next match is against Blantyre United at Balaka Stadium on Saturday. The team will be looking to continue their winning ways and climb even further up the log table.
Meanwhile, CRECK Sporting Club will be disappointed with the result, having come so close to securing a draw against the defending champions. They will be looking to bounce back in their next match against Masters Security FC.
